About Starset

STARSET is an American rock band hailing from Columbus, Ohio. It was formed by Dustin Bates in 2013. They hit the ground running and released their first studio album the following year.

The band made its mark by expanding on their concept albums through a social media and YouTube campaign that led to the band generating over $200,000 in revenue from views alone up through November 2016. Form then, the band went on to gain superstardom that led to an incredible 280 million YouTube views in that same time period. 

STARSET’s musical style has been described in a variety of ways; from hard rock to electronic rock and from alternative to progressive. The band features a huge variety of instruments, styles, and influences that has led to Billboard and Revolver charts labeling the band as “rock”. Some have described the band as being “cinematic rock”, which describes a hard rock band creating soundtrack singles for a major blockbuster film. They blend symphonics and electronics and feature a riff-driven baritone guitar.

This style statement was first seen in the band’s second album, which combines the best parts of hard rock with the emotional impact of bands like Breaking Benjamin. All while having that big sweeping sound that you often find in cinematic masterpieces.

Specifically, the band pays homage to its major influences including; Hans Zimmer, Nine Inch Nails, Sigur Ros, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Deftones, Linkin Park and Breaking Benjamin.
